Shary Boyle is known internationally for her drawing, sculpture and painting and for her audio-visual performances. Informed by the deeply personal and fanciful, her work traverses the terrain from adolescent anxieties and desires to evocative, fairy-tale like realms.
She graduated from the Ontario College of Art and Design in 1994. She has performed at VonRot GmbH, Berlin (2001), the All Tomorrow’s Parties festival, Los Angeles (2002), the Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto (2004, 2006), the Olympia Theatre, Paris (2005), the Fonal Festival, Finland (2005), the Sonar Festival, Barcelona (2005), and the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles (2006, 2008). Ingenuity, virtuosity and refinement define the fabulous world of multi-disciplinary artist Shary Boyle. With extraordinary versatility, the Toronto artist engages in drawing, painting, sculpture, audio-visual performance and installations to explore human psychological and emotional states through a fictional fantasy. At once feminist, dream-like and poetic, but always charged with disturbing emotion and expressive candour, her works generate daring and original perspectives on the present. This major publication features all new works, many created especially for Boyle’s first solo museum exhibition, touring nationally throughout 2011. Three original essays and dozens of color plates showcase the remarkable talent of this upcoming artist.
