Bev Chappell Archives & Donation to the City of Ottawa
“I am always looking outside, trying to say something that is true. But maybe nothing is really true. Except what’s out there. And what’s out there is constantly changing.”

BIO: Bev Chappell (1955-2020)
This collection spans 20 plus years from 1970’s to mid 90’s. I studied photography at Algonquin College in the 70’s where our ‘Perception’ professor Lynne Cohen (1944-2014) introduced us to a street style of shooting.
My photographs were all shot on 35mm format using Leica, Canon & Nikon cameras, developed & printed by me in the various darkrooms I built myself throughout that time period.
My street photography has taken me around the world and back home again in search of images that appealed to my gut instinct.
My approach at exhibiting my work to the public was mainly oriented towards small venues such as cafes and lounges.
My purpose in presenting this series for donation to the City of Ottawa Art Collection is two-fold simply as a gift and a legacy.
