Ginette Bérubé, Montreal, Canada
Ginette Bérubé (°1954, Amos, Québec) creates mixed media artworks, paintings, photo transfers and drawings. The artist can easily imagine her own interpretation without being hindered by reality. By demonstrating everyday objects as well as references to texts, painting and family history, she creates situations in which the art pieces are altered or detached from their natural function. By applying specific combinations and certain manipulations, different functions and/or contexts are created. With the use of appropriated materials which are borrowed from a day-to-day context, she investigates the duality that develops through different interpretations.
Her works demonstrate how life extends beyond its own subjective limits and often tells stories. It challenges the binaries we continually reconstruct between Self and Other, between our own ‘drama’ and ‘civilized’ selves.
Ginette Bérubé currently lives and works in Montréal, Canada.
