Fire Island Open Edition Photographs 1930-50’s

Fire Isle Collection 1930-50’s

‘Beautiful Ghosts’ Series of Mid Century Photographs.

This specific grouping of vintage mid century photographs, mostly taken on Fire Island during the 1940 & 50’s, originates from the archives of an elderly gay gentleman who passed in his early nineties. These incredibly beautiful series of historical images depict a hidden community; a safe haven for men, & women, who loved one another.

Quite often, Ive been told, you needed to find someone discrete to develop your films, since being openly gay was not an option in this time in history. I believe sharing the collection in this manner, pays homage to those who paved the way for all of us to enjoy our freedom today, to love whom we wish.

Enjoy !

Special Open Edition. Paper measures 11 x 14 inches. Image measures 8.25 x 12 inches. Printed on Epson Enhanced Matte/Ultrachrome HDR Ink. Prints were made on archival paper and produced in a professional lab in Canada.

These prints were made by scanning the original negatives, having them restored for any imperfections such as scratches, but images were kept as true to the original intent of the image.
