Enter into Dave Cooper’s world of nightmarishly beautiful pillowy women! For a full month, La Petite Mort will be featuring Cooper’s preparatory sketches of his larger paintings. These exclusive sketches come to us straight from our nation’s capital- a place that immediately conjures up images of political conservatism, frost bite-inducing winters and postcard-perfect images. However, Cooper offers us something entirely outside of the norm by offering a darker, more violent assault on the senses with his rotund women and gremlin-like creatures. You will fall in love. These twisted doll-like figures with twinkling eyes and toothy grins will quickly become your demonic sweethearts. Come and snatch up these exclusive treasures while you can, or someone else might be taking your sweetie home.

Dave Cooper’s pencil drawings are the starting point for all of his work, whether paintings, toys, graphic novels, cartoons. they’re the most crucial stage in any of his works, the moment when anything is possible. Dave shows several of his preliminary doodles at La Petite Mort for the first time ever.
Dave Cooper was born in Eastern Canada in 1967. 18 years later he began his professional career, making what were then called “alternative comics”. Gradually Dave made a name for himself and honed his craft. After about a decade his comics had gained a solid cult following, and praise from such luminaries as Robert Crumb, art spiegelman, and David Cronenberg. In fact, Mr. Cronenberg penned an introduction to Dave’s last substantial work in the medium, the graphic novel, “Ripple”. In recent years Dave has won a slew of awards, been translated into French and Spanish, and has exhibited his comic book artwork all over North America and Europe.
