December 2006
La Petite Mort Gallery invites you to a vernissage for the new drawings & paintings by HAYDEN MENZIES entitled “Even assholes get into Heaven” on
Friday, December 1st, 2006, from 7-10pm. Tunes by Lady Ms Myrrh. The exhibition will be on display from December 1, 2006 – January 3, 2007.
Artist Statement:
“The constant theme of family, hope and security in my work, is very much present in this new series of paintings and drawings, but with new purpose. Here, they appear in both macrocosmic and microcosmic scenarios and thoughts. In the macrocosm, issues such as spirituality, balance and life in general come full circle when dealing with the microcosm of the individual, and embed themselves in day to day scenarios. Struggles and successes alike, macro versus micro becomes irrelevant when placed in the right context.
This collection of paintings and drawings are works that touch on the grand scheme of things, as well as the simplest of passing thoughts and ideas. It is deliberately vague in its concept but aesthetically cohesive and focused. I have used materials and surfaces that I am familiar with, such as acrylic paint, oil pastel, conte, graphite and charcoal, to avoid clouding the point through over experimentation.
I am as close to, and as far from, home as I have ever been”. Hayden Menzies, November 2006
