NYC Underbelly Project & Exhibit

La Petite Mort Gallery presents:

New York City’s Photographic Underbelly / The Exhibition

August 10 – 15 , 2013 / Vernissage Aug 10 / 7 – 10-pm

Come August 10, LPM Gallery will present a showcase of photographs taken during “New York City’s Photographic Underbelly: A Survivor’s Guide” which took place May 17-19. The exhibition will locate the experiences of the participants and as such, will offer the chance to honor and connect the varying personal artistic visions through which the workshop is supported and therefore extends.

With on-site direction from Guy Berube, the exclusive NYC Workshop offered individuals a unique opportunity to see the underbelly of the photographic community in the Big Apple. The workshop was open to anyone – of any participation or position in the arts – interested in diversifying their photographic outlook across their known cultures and communities.

What came of the NYC workshop were precious and invaluable moments of cross-exchange. Participants were able to step outside of their comfort zone and find rhythm within scenarios and incidents of New York City culture. Beginning as ‘outsiders’, the participants found themselves able to put the camera down, connect with their surroundings, and stepin. The upcoming exhibition hopes to trace these experiences as to highlight the joys of strategic displacement.

Due to the success of the inaugural event, LPM Gallery is accepting participants for “New York’s Photographic Underbelly: A Survivor’s Guide//Part Deux”, which will operate from October 11-13, 2013.
