Canadian War Museum Collection
On behalf of the LPM Collectors’ Group, I would like to invite you for a tour of the War Art Collection at the Canadian War Museum (CWM) on Thursday 23 April at 6 pm with Meredith MacLean, Collections Specialist, Art and Memorials, with a special emphasis on the work of Canadian War Artist, Elaine Goble, who will join us for the tour.
The CWM’s war art collections of 13,00 works includes three collections including the Canadian War Memorials of the First World War (1914-18), the Canadian War Records of the Second World War (1939-45); and the post-war Canadian Armed Forces Civilian Artist Program (1968-95). The collections provide a link to the conflicts from the perspective of those who witnessed them and convey the feelings of the participants in the conflicts.
Elaine’s work reveals the experiences and narratives of Canadian soldiers, military families, and survivors of war. Her portraits span the conflicts of World War I and II, as well as the conflicts of the UN peacekeeping missions, and the most recent conflict in Afghanistan.
Her work is featured in numerous public collections including the Canadian War Museum, Library and Archives Canada, the Royal Canadian Mint, the Canada Council Art Bank, and the New Brunswick Museum. I invite you to see Elaine’s most recent work in an exhibit at Wallack Galleries at 203 Bank Street from 11-25 April.
The fee for the evening is $25 for non-members. If you would like more information or would like to join us for the tour, please contact me for details.
With best wishes,
