Danish-born painter Christian Petersen Skov appears to have arrived in California in the early 1880s. He became a citizen of the U.S. in San Luis Obispo in 1883. Most of his years in California were spent in San Francisco where he worked as a mailman. A prolific painter, in his leisure he painted scenes of San Francisco, floral still lifes, and landscapes of Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, and Russian River.

His last years were spent at the Danish Home in San Rafael, CA where he died on Nov. 27, 1942. & lnvw; San Rafael Independent, 11-28-1942 (obit).
This specific landscape was particularly a favourite of the artist, & seems to have been painted more than once.
