February 2007
Come join us at La Petite Mort Gallery for it’s next monthly exhibit of new paintings entitled PURGE, by REID MCLACHLAN, with opening vernissage this Friday, February 2, from 7-10pm.

Artist Statement: Purge
“In these my newest paintings I investigate faith, identity and mortality but also consider and explore the act of painting as a form of catharsis and even atonement. As time goes on I find myself more passionate, angry and determined to visually express my thoughts and feelings than ever before. This cathartic personal approach to my work could perhaps be considered anachronistic in our current post-modern, cynical world but it is undeniably who I am. I wonder if I’m alone with my worries, hopes and fears…or is this all part of the shared human condition? It is these ideas coupled with an innate need to communicate them that compels me to create”. Reid McLachlan, 2006
Reid studied at the Ontario College of Art in Toronto and spent his last year of study at their campus in Florence Italy. He graduated with Honours and a number of awards in 1987. Since then he has painted continuously and prolifically, first in Toronto, then Ottawa, and for the last 12 years at his studio in Chelsea, Quebec. Reid has exhibited in Canada, the U.S. and in Italy, and his work can be found in public and private collections throughout North America. Recently he has had major solo shows at the City of Ottawa’s Karsh-Masson Gallery, the City of Gatineau’s Galerie Montcalm and Galerie d’art de l’Alliance Française. He has also had large solo exhibitions locally at L’Imagier, Casino Lac Leamy, Art Image, Santé Restaurant and Galerie Rodrigue Lemay and participated in numerous group shows at venues including the Ottawa Art Gallery, Ottawa School of Art and Canadian Museum of Nature. For the past 12 years Reid has also been a regular exhibiting artist on the Artists in their Environment Studio Tour.
