Artist Statement:
“This new series of paintings still deals with many themes that have been seen before in past works, but involve a more focused look at things that are an immediate influence on myself, and my immediate environment. It has allowed to me to develop further, stylistically, as well as engage in new color schemes, background involvement and new characters.
I continue to rely on tools such as acrylic paint, charcoal, oil pastel and ink on canvas, to achieve both the aesthetic and necessary chain of events to arrive at a successful piece. As always, the process is essential to the final product. These new works have also allowed me to experiment with process and see if, and how, it changes the outcome of a finished piece. In this serious, a large change to the process of creating has been the move to a new studio space in Toronto. I am currently working in a garage behind my house with no insulation. It has forced me to approach the works in a slightly different way, based on a very literal environmental factor.
I have reached a new level of comfort and excitement with these pieces, and feel proud to present them together as an all new series”. Hayden Menzies, 2008
Performing Live:
BOY SCOUT KILLERS
Boyscout Killers is : Mike Plante, Mathieu Coates, Mark Audet, Philippe Lepage
“We have been stuck in this hellish place of forced believed comfort, surrounded by the monotony it’s inhabitants ultimately wear. Government workers are seen flocking every street corner. Conversations about elastic fights that broke out in the Data Entry cubicles can be felt floating over the city, something like a bad omen. We live in a place which is brimming with people who smoke large quantities of weed and waste it on couch conversation. Derelict roads leading to no place of interest. One of us managed to get to the other side of the world, only to find out the situation was worse there. We are forever trying to keep our sanity the only way we know how. We are the Boyscout Killers and we create”. 2008
