Beautiful Mid Century Untitled Water Color Drawing, depicting friends on the beach on Fire Island. Signed ‘DRUT 48’ (dated 1948). From a collection of mid century artworks & archives acquired in the early 1990’s in New York. Measures 13.75 x 11 inches (paper is exact same size as other Fire Island (& miscellaneaous) drawings from the same archive). Small pin holes on each corner (as though drawing was pinned to the wall); adds ot the charm. Notice the grouping of the men, with the women a slight distance. Perhaps an odd observation but being that the archives is from a queer background from the 1940’s, these types of artworks may reveal to us a hidden observation of the lifestyle on the island at the time, as a place of freedom for gay men & women.
