“These are paintings with a strong narrative quality that seek to mirror the duality of our time and the difficulty of living in an age that can be emotionally isolating at the same time as we publicly share more of
ourselves than ever before”.
Has technology precipitated this shift in conventional notions of privacy or have these networking systems developed organically out of changing human needs? We have all seen the power of instant communication in recent times. We have seen how the collective will of a people can manifest and how quickly positive change can take place when governments can no longer restrict or control the flow of information. We have also seen how readily these same technologies can be used to bully, spy and steal. We are living in truly revolutionary times, we see the triumph of the oppressed along
side the chaos of unbridled capitalism and we are compelled to wonder what could possibly come next.
Shmelzer says: Try not to worry too much, though. It might all work out OK.
