PRESS RELEASE:
LPM Projects offers unique sale of exclusive photographic works from its private collection. After years of building one of the most significant early collections of photography, art dealer and patron Sam Wagstaff sold his complete archives and began collecting rare American silver. As LPM looks toward a new chapter of development, this sale works in the spirit of Wagstaff – as a means to clear a path for other possibilities. The idea of a ‘collection’ as locator of the past holds within it the possibility to begin again – to refresh and renew.
LPM’s new international focus continues to grow and expand across new and exciting locations. And we maintain our mission to support cutting edge Canadian content by having created 3 new international artist residencies. However, to make these projects feasible – without any current outside assistance – we have decided to present this locally unprecedented sale and exhibition of photographs. LPM’s private collection is celebrated for its standard of quality that extends across a dynamic field of methods, contents and contexts. The works range from found, anonymous images to prints from established artists, accumulated from 25 years of activity, and sourced from all over the world, including New York City, San Francisco, Paris, London, etc. Over the years we have also collected from the many artists we represent, in an effort to support particular works and projects from which we truly believe in. For exhibiting purposes only, the show will include works by internationally celebrated artists including Andres Serrano, Diane Arbus, Margaret Bourke-White, Slava Mogutin, and more. In addition we will be presenting an exclusive series of limited edition prints by Marcus Leatherdale that includes portraits of Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Leigh Bowery, Madonna, Iman and Robert Mapplethorpe taken during the eighties in NYC. The specially curated selection of work centers on themes of out opportunity from which to take full advantage.
