Puerto Vallarta Residency, Mexico 2017-18
This residency happened in 2017 & 2018 and is no longer offered.
LPM Projects is thrilled to announce the LPM Projects Artist Residency in Puerto Vallarta (Mexico) in Spring 2017.
In 2005, Guy Bérubé opened La Petite Mort Gallery (LPM) in Ottawa and, after ten successful years in operation, sensing a shift in the needs of the art market, he closed LPM Gallery, and launched LPM Projects.
LPM Projects has collaborated with a number of institutions, curators, directors, and artists in Santiago & Valparaiso (Chile), in Mexico City (Mexico), Amsterdam (Netherlands), Buenos Aires (Argentina), New York (USA), Toronto & Montreal (Canada) and Madrid (Spain). These collaborations have resulted in projects in such challenging spaces such as a former dog pound, a former brothel, and a former prison… as well as in more traditional art spaces, along with community outreach programs.
The Residency
Located on the south coast of Mexico, Puerto Vallarta is a Mexican beach resort city situated on the Pacific Ocean and is easily accessible with several direct flights from Canada.
The Artist Residency is located in a beautiful private 3 story home with private pool, including a full artist studio with its own entrance, work table & basic tools, located on a hill in a quiet part of town (except for the early morning roosters), 12 street blocks from the ocean & beach, with 360 degree views of the city, hills & ocean, including 3 bedrooms, each with their own terrace with view, fully furnished, with all kitchen appliances, bedding & towels (bath & beach). The rooftop terrace is breathtaking, along with laundry facilities.
International travel costs, art supplies, local travel, tourist excursions, food & alcohol to be supplied by the artist. Residency fees also apply; see below.
Wifi, property maintenance, household utilities, bottled water delivery, pool & cleaning services, laundry on location, all supplied & maintained by LPM.
Security being a priority, we have very strict house rules that are for the safety of the guests, host & it’s neighbours. Breaking any rules qualifies for immediate removal from premises. These rules will be discussed in advance, and must be agreed upon in writing. Once again, this is for everyone’s safety.
The shipping of finished artworks (or works in production) are entirely the responsibility of the artist. Art supplies & misc. items cannot be stored before arrival, or after departure.
Kitchen is shared, as is the rest of the home. Space sharing can be easily discussed to everyone’s approval.
We do not include any transportation assistance during your stay, including arirport pick up, but we can certainly assist in all manner of information for whatever your needs are.
Personal insurance obligatory.
Mission
The LPM Projects Artist Residency provides artists with the time and a space away from their usual environment to work in a quiet, fully supported, and beautiful setting with uninterrupted time to focus, to investigate their own practice, prepare a new body of work, or to experiment. Artists are expected to work during their residency and, if they choose, residents are encouraged to give presentations, workshops, or to collaborate with local artists or the general public.
Artists will be introduced to beauty & uniqueness of Puerto Vallarta, the hidden beaches, the culture, the local food/meat/fish markets, the galleries, private artist studios & any information pertaining to local tours and excursions, and so on.
The Residence Fee
We are non-profit so any artist fees are based on personal budget, goals & ambition. To be discussed. Our goal is to create a unique, creative environment.
Residence fees to to cover costs of the household & utilities.
Application
The application process is by invitation only and may be the beginning of a longer relationship.
